Cereals 2019 Roundup

DAN JOLLY

Whilst the rain poured down hard during the build-up, that didn't stop any of the visitors or exhibitors being in fine spirits for what was another good Cereals show. The ground was soaked and muddy, but with a pair of wellies and a 4x4 everyone got along just fine. It was great to meet with so many of our farms including those that were also exhibiting such as Strutt & Parker, Sentry, and William Moorfoot to name but a few.

Industry updates

As ever the industry's most influential and important players were around. There was a spirited debate hosted by Peter Kendall of the AHDB, with NFU President Minette Batters urging a complete review of competition law in UK agriculture, with the representative of the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) coming under fire.We also caught up with independent agronomists, the AICC and NIAB. Where there is a real feeling that independent agronomy is making significant gains in the UK market, as more farms look to take back control of their biggest variable spend and move away from supplier-led agronomy. We heard the latest political intrigue from the CLA as they help farming chart a course through these uncertain times. The “Digital Revolution” proves that there really is a lot of positive change going on in the industry, and farms are hungry for that change!

Yagro on show

The Yagro team were attracting huge numbers of farmers across the two days, showcasing both our Marketplace and Price Check features. We ran Price Check exercises for farms that have not yet benchmarked their chemical prices, asking them to indicate how well they thought they were buying their ag chem, and more importantly how much they wanted to save! It’s going to be a fascinating exercise to see their actual results and help them realise those savings. If you missed out and want to understand how much you could save, get in touch.

Better still, there is a new version of Yagro Price Check coming soon, with loads of new features, insight and will be even easier to find out how and where you can save thousands. Keep an eye on our blog for updates.

New research project: help us out with a quick survey

One last thing: we are carrying out research (for a government-funded project, more on that soon!) to build the next generation of digital farming tools. We ran a survey with visitors at Cereals that we are now extending online. Would you help us by answering a couple of questions on your farm's business? It should only take a couple of minutes and it helps us building better tools for you to optimise your farm productivity. Fill in the survey here: Yagro Survey 2019.
