HRH The Prince of Wales explores cutting edge UK agtech

YAGRO HISTORIC

YAGRO, a Cambridge-based agtech company, has received a personal invitation from the UK’s highest profile farmer, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, to visit Duchy Home Farm. The Prince, accompanied by Jes Staley, CEO of Barclays, met Yagro founders Gareth Davies, Daniel Jolly and Richard Sears at Barclays Eagle Lab in Notting Hill to discuss the financial sustainability of the farming sector and the role technology and innovation will play in its future.

Gareth Davies, CEO of Yagro, said:

“We are certainly looking forward to visiting Home Farm and exploring how our innovative technology can play a royal role. His Royal Highness has been at the cutting edge of organic farming innovation; we would love for him to be at the cutting edge of digital innovation in agriculture as well.”

The Prince took the time to speak to the whole Yagro team and even inspected some of the code behind Yagro’s pioneering input purchasing platform.

Yagro connects farms confidentially with their suppliers, enabling them to request quotes and place orders online. Since their launch last year, farmers have been flocking to the platform, attracted by the visibility and control allowing them to make more informed purchasing decisions and secure the best deals for their businesses.

Yagro presented the Prince with a hamper of organic British produce on behalf of the growers already reaping the benefits of Yagro to help control costs and improve profitability.

Farms in the UK spend over £12bn every year on their inputs, with the majority still relying on manual paper-based office systems and phone, fax or email to manage their purchasing. Yagro’s advanced digital technology offers a more streamlined, efficient and faster way of procuring essential farm supplies with less hassle for the busy farm manager.

The Yagro platform is cloud based, accessible anywhere, on any device. In just a few clicks, farmers can send requests to their suppliers, compare quotes and place orders. From their dashboard, they can manage these orders, view expected deliveries, monitor their spend and access powerful analytics and data insight for their business.

Gareth Davies further commented:

“Yagro is a team of farmers, entrepreneurs and technologists on a mission to connect agriculture to drive more financially sustainable farming sector. We are closely aligned with the Prince’s passionate advocacy for the sustainability of UK farming and rural communities and look forward to furthering these causes in future.”
